The federal government has been active on a few fronts and a brief update is in order.
First, the USCIS issued a new I-9 Form. (click here) While the substance has not changed significantly, the form itself has been updated. The USCIS updated the format of the I-9 Form with the aim of ease of use, mostly by expanding the instructions. The new Form was issued March 8, 2013 and may be used immediately. However, please know that you must begin using this new I-9 Form for all new hires on May 7, 2013.
Second, for those employers with 50 or more employees, the Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division issued a new Family and Medical Leave Act Poster. This revised poster does contain substantial changes. Namely, it both clarifies and adds to the language on Military Leave Entitlements. (click here) If you have 50 or more employees, please post this where you do other related posters such as break rooms and/or Human Resources.
